Quick Change

UA Area, April 4, 6:40 p.m.

Authorities arrested a male cross dresser for changing outfits in a women's restroom, a University of Arizona Police Department report said.

A female custodian at the "Swede" Johnson Building, 1111 N. Cherry Ave., noticed a pair of red high heels in a bathroom stall after the building had closed.

The custodian said she waited outside the restroom for the stall's occupant to leave. According to the report, she was "frightened" to see a 6-foot-tall, heavy-set man exit instead of a woman. The custodian said the man, who was later identified as 44-year-old Ricky Jones, was muttering to himself as he left the building.

An officer checked the restroom after the custodian called the police, finding a discarded package of fake nails, the crotch section from a pair of white panties and an aerosol can of disinfectant. A petroleum jelly-like substance was also smeared on the stall door, the report stated.

Another officer stopped Jones, who was driving in the area, for not using his headlights, as police were searching the restroom. The report noted that Jones was wearing white pantyhose and red fake fingernails on his left hand when the officer pulled him over.

Jones reportedly denied using the restroom at the building at first, but then recanted. He reportedly agreed that some might find it "disturbing" that he had been changing in a women's restroom, despite the fact that he was a cross dresser.

Police cited and released Jones for trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Stabbed in the Back

West Ajo Way and South Kinney Road, March 21, 1:10 a.m.

Deputies found six glass pipes, commonly used for drugs, on a woman who had called them for a ride, a Pima County Sheriff's Department report stated.

The woman said friends had dropped her off at a gas station with instructions to wait there for a few minutes until they returned. She said she phoned authorities after several hours had passed, because she was new to the area, didn't have money for a taxi and didn't know the address of the house where she was staying with friends.

The woman added that she needed to get home to take the medication she received after she was stabbed in the back at her previous residence.

Deputies told her that they would need to search her for weapons or contraband before giving her a ride. One of the deputies found the pipes in two different purses that the woman was carrying, the report said. The woman said four of the pipes belonged to her friends.

A deputy cited the woman for possession of drug paraphernalia and then drove her back to the house where she was staying.
