An alleged shoplifter said she was misheard while offering someone gum—not threatening them with a gun—according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department report.
An employee at a southwest-side Family Dollar store told deputies that a woman had come into the store that day and apparently placed several items in her purse. When confronted, the woman reportedly became agitated and started saying she was going to sue the employee for falsely accusing her of stealing. She then declared she would call 911 on the employee, at which point the employee told her to leave and never come back.
The employee said the woman then threatened to assault her and walked out of the store with a bottle of Downy laundry detergent worth about $8.
Another Family Dollar employee said he met the woman in the parking lot, where she said, "Are you guys going to start shit? If you are, I'm going to pull my gun on you guys." She then allegedly got into a car with someone and departed.
Later that day, the subject turned herself in for shoplifting the detergent. However, she said she'd never threatened to pull a gun on anyone. She said that when she was about to leave with the detergent, she saw that a young male at a register appeared scared, so she told him, "I have gum." She said she was offering him a piece of gum as a "peace offering because she is a good person."
The woman, who had no previous criminal record, was cited for shoplifting and released.

A University of Arizona student drank alcohol and took enough drugs to seriously harm himself because school was "too hard," a UA Police Department report stated.
The subject's friend said that his friend had been drinking heavily and had also taken an unspecified amount of oxycodone, cocaine, Adderall and Xanax. Several people had taken the subject to the hospital, he said, but as soon as they arrived, the subject ran away.
The subject eventually admitted to officers that he'd taken the drugs and that he'd been drinking earlier. He said he'd run away because he didn't want to get in trouble. Pressed for details, he said he "may have done one line of cocaine or nine lines."
The subject insisted he had no intention of hurting himself—he was just stressed out because one of his classes was "extremely hard."
He wasn't cited, but was told he may be getting a call from the dean of students.
