A belligerent man on the brink of violence quickly went from fight to contrite at the mere sight of a Taser gun, a University of Arizona Police Department report said.
The officer was called by security at a central Target store regarding "a possible domestic violence situation" outside the business, in whose parking lot he encountered a man and woman—apparently a couple—in the middle of a heated argument. While cursing and pacing back and forth across part of the lot, the man was screaming at the woman "about wanting items she had in her possession"—and she was yelling back.
After calling the Tucson Police Department for backup, the reporting officer commanded the man to stay away from the woman, to which he responded, "You cannot stop me!" and approached her.
When the officer grabbed his shoulder, the man pushed him away, took off his backpack, turned toward the cop "in a fighting stance ... (clenching) both his fists and made an unintelligible comment about fighting."
The officer then simply pulled out his department-issued stun gun, turned it on and pointed it at the subject.
From then on, the man obeyed his every command, unclenching his fists and putting them behind his back for handcuffing. As the UA officer holstered his taser, a TPD cop easily placed the man in a patrol vehicle bound for jail.
