A woman suspected her boyfriend may have made up a story about what happened when he failed to return her car, a Pima County Sheriff's Department report noted.
The woman said she phoned her boyfriend when he didn't return with her vehicle. According to her, the boyfriend said he had been beaten up by a group of five men, and the car had been taken from him. She said she suspected he might be lying, because he has a drug problem.
The deputy called the boyfriend, who claimed he and his friend were cleaning an abandoned home when five "big, tall men" came in and "beat the shit out of him."
He said one of the men also hit him over the head with a gun.
The deputy asked if he could come speak to him in person, but the boyfriend said the men knew where he was and threatened to kill him and his girlfriend.
The deputy then offered to meet him at a neutral location, but the boyfriend insisted that he was too dizzy and could not move. He reportedly said he wanted to stay at his sister's.
Authorities attempted to locate the sister's home using their database, but were unable to find the boyfriend. The car was listed as stolen.
Looking For A Drink

A man looking for free beer got into a scuffle with members at a fraternity house, a University of Arizona Police Department report said.
Lloyd Tiab, 26, walked into the Kappa Sigma fraternity house, 1423 E. First St., claiming to be a former member of the organization. Three members of the fraternity told officers that Tiab, who appeared to be drunk, became violent when he was told to leave; Tiab said he was attacked first.
The report said four or five members of the fraternity chased Tiab out of the house. They accused him of throwing rocks and bottles at them and the fraternity building.
Officers found Tiab had two warrants out for his arrest. They also charged him with two counts of assault and one count of trespassing. He was booked at Pima County Jail.
Clever Excuse
Rudasill and Oracle Roads, Aug. 27, 7:01 a.m.
A man who asked to use a convenience-store bathroom because he felt sick disassembled a condom machine and stole the change it contained, a PCSD report stated.
The manager at the Circle K, 5801 N. Oracle Road, allowed the man to use the restroom because he indicated he wasn't well. He was in there for some time, the manager said, and then exited, saying that he still felt ill.
The manager checked the bathroom to see if he had vomited inside. She found the condom machine had been taken apart and all its change had been removed, the report stated. A deupty took a security tape showing the man as evidence.
