Police Dispatch

Poolside Exhibition

East River Road and North First Avenue, Sept. 1, 11:06 a.m.

Three people complained to deputies about a woman sunbathing in the nude at a community pool, according to a Pima County Sheriff's Department report.

A 60-year-old man accused Barbara Karmel of unhooking her top and rolling up her thong so that her whole "backside" was exposed when he went up to talk to her about exposing herself.

During a separate exchange between Karmel and people expressing their discomfort over her alleged nudity, a couple told deputies that the sunbather raised herself up on the lounger she was sitting on, exposing her nipples, and said that if they hadn't seen "tits and butt, then get a life."

Karmel said she couldn't understand why people were making a fuss, "because no one was around except for older people," the report stated. She added that she wore pasties to cover her nipples and tried to keep her genitals under wraps.

Nevertheless, Karmel was cited for indecent exposure.

Bathroom Fire

West Sunset Road and North La Cholla Boulevard, Aug. 31, 8:26 p.m.

A man watching over an oft-vandalized public restroom found a burning roll of toilet paper, a PCSD report said.

The man said he observed a juvenile exiting the restroom at Meadowbrook Park, 2635 W. Sandbrook Lane. Shortly thereafter, he smelled smoke and found a roll of toilet paper on fire inside.

After responding to the man's call, a deputy extinguished the smoldering remains of the toilet paper and took pictures of damage to one of the bathroom's walls. A search of the area turned up no one matching the juvenile's description.

Weapon-Free Zone

UA Area, Sept. 10, 10:49 p.m.

According to a University of Arizona Police Department report, two men shooting BB guns in a UA parking lot were contacted by police for violating campus rules.

An officer located the men after a resident assistant at a nearby dormitory phoned authorities about the incident.

The officer placed the guns in the bed of a truck belonging to one of the men, before reiterating the weapons policy. The men said they understood, the report stated.
