Patience, Please

Late last year, The Weekly advertised for three staff and free-lance openings: our staff City Week editor position, and free-lance restaurant reviewer and columnist gigs.

The response we received for all three openings was overwhelming, and I thank everyone who took the time to apply. Since then, we've completed our City Week editor search. We've brought on board Carrie Stern, an incredibly talented recent graduate of the University of Arizona, to take over for Joan Schuman at the end of the month. Joan will remain part of the Weekly family as a regular contributor.

We are just now starting reviewing the restaurant reviewer applicants, and after that's completed, we'll move on to the columnist applicants.

I bring this up because a large number of applicants have understandably called or e-mailed to ask why they haven't heard anything yet. While most of the inquiring applicants have been pleasant, a few have been, well, downright rude. Assholes, even--wanting to know WHY they have not been contacted yet, goddammit. A couple have even assumed that the positions have been filled, and they demanded to know why they specifically weren't picked.

To all the applicants, I ask: Please be patient. A lot is happening here--good stuff, but time-consuming stuff. We will be in touch.

And, sincerely: Thanks again for the interest. That is, thanks to everyone but the assholes.
