In a hailing tribute to classic Western cinema, Kevin Costner directs, produces and co-stars in this visually stunning, poignant and well-acted film. Situated among the rolling hills and breath-taking sunsets in the late 19th century, Robert Duvall and Costner lead simple lives as free grazers with their grit, gruff and John Wayne-type gait. But when violent and greedy masked men murder their buddy and threaten to steal their cattle, the original cowboys seek payback with pistols in a realistic shootout without Hollywood’s gratuitous special effects. Annette Benning adds a touch of romance and intrigue to round out this slow-paced adventure that is worth the wait.
