On My Way

Catherine Deneuve is an ex-beauty queen and a small-town restaurant owner who throws caution to the wind in this French road movie. After finding out that her married lover has left her for another mistress (oh the French!), Deneuve leaves her busy restaurant in the middle of lunch, hops in her car and never looks back. She eventually reconnects with her estranged daughter and tween grandson, takes a detour for a beauty queen reunion, and finds enough reasons to go on with life. It’s a tale full of joie de vivre that never falls into sentimental clichés. We’re used to these movies over here; they are the kind of films that seem to keep Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon employed, but Deneuve—elegant, sexy and stylish as ever at age 70—carries the film with a natural grace that’s untouchable.

On My Way is not showing in any theaters in the area.
