Noshing Around 


The folks behind Poco and Moms are working on opening their second location. The new, New Mexican favorite is going in at the old Amber spot in the ever-so-appropriately named Sante Fe Square at 7000 E. Tanque Verde to be exact. Given this place consistently has lines outside of its Kolb location, a second (and significantly larger) location will receive a seriously warm welcome from the restaurant's cult-like following. Even more exciting than a new, bigger locale is the fact that they have applied for a liquor license so they can serve up tasty drinks alongside their celebrated Hatch cuisine. From what I'm told, the menu will mirror the mothership (for now). No word on the opening date, but stay tuned to Noshing Around for updates.


A new distillery is taking up a location in the same hood as the craft brew peeps of 1055 and Nimbus. Three Wells Distilling Company have secured a building at 3780 E. 44th St., Suite 120, and applied for their distillery license. I cannot wait to try some craft whiskey from them.

Mexican restaurants are something we are all familiar with 'round here. The people that brought you the Union Public House are going Mexican, but in completely different regions than our beloved, yet saturated Sonoran cuisine. Grant Krueger and Steve Stratigouleas are working on opening Reforma Cocina y Cantina, at 4310 N. Campbell Ave. No. 100. Reforma will be serving Central and Mexico City cuisine and cocktails. Be on the lookout for an opening date.


Wine & Cheese Summer Camp, that is! Blu, A Wine & Cheese Stop located in Mercado San Agustin (and the first or last stop on Tucson's Modern Streetcar) is hosting a cool themed "summer camp" where instead of canoes and 3-legged races, Tucsonans (or visitors, but come on, who is coming here when it is this hot?) will discover how to navigate the expanding world of wine and cheese being produced by today's artisans, both locally and around the world. They are offering four camp sessions on Fridays, Aug. 1-22, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., each featuring a different topic. (Sorry, I slept on the first session.) The cost of each session is $20, which includes wine and cheese, plus a $10 rebate on any retail purchase. For more info or tickets go to www.bluarizona.com or call 314-8262.
