THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

Salsa, tequila and music, that is! SAACA is throwing their fourth annual Southern Arizona Salsa and Tequila Challenge. This is a party, my friends, guaranteed. It goes down on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. at La Encantada. The shindig brings out more than 40 of our local chefs and barkeeps hooking up the salsas from traditional to far out there, and mixing up tequila drinks to pair with food from all the competitors. This is one of those "don't miss" foodie events, with all this great food, drink and live music.  Proceeds benefit Southern Arizona and SAACA's arts therapy and education programs. SEND ME WINGIN'

Tucson Originals will be hosting a pop-up, Wings and Waffles showdown, Sunday, Aug. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pastiche, 3025 N. Campbell Ave. Local restaurants vie for the title of best wings and/or waffles. This event has a very limited number of tickets available so buy early, price is only $20! For tickets go to: http://tucsonoriginals.com/wings-waffles/

PHAT NOODLES

A big, bad, purple food truck hit the scene July 25 and is manned by the one and only "Tucker." Fat Noodle is serving up slurp-a-licious ramen to the ever-craving noodle fans of Tucson. A sneak peek at their opening day menu revealed a classic tonkatsu style ramen with pork belly, a vegetarian ramen, a ramen burger and some ceviche spring rolls. To check out where they will be cruising to, throw a like on their Facebook page at facebook.com/Tucsonfatnoodle.

A GRAPE TIME

Charron Vineyards is hosting their annual grape harvest Aug. 9 and 10.  You can volunteer for this year's harvest with no experience or tools necessary, plus lunch and refreshments are provided. The tasting room will still be open for those of you who would rather just watch the harvesters toil while sipping on a chilled glass of wine under the misters.  Also check our Charron's Happy Picnic Hour! For more info go to the website charronvineyards.com.

THE ROOF, THE ROOF

So, the second (Kolb Road, but with different owners) Guadalajara Grill went up in smoke, and I'm not referring to their carne grill. The Prince Road location went all Cheech and Chong in May. No word yet if there is foul play involved or just the worst luck ever.

HERE AND GONE

Totopos Mexican Grill, 2475 S. Harrison Road has closed, after opening just last October. (And reported right here in Noshing Around.) The place appeared quiet, but the closing was confirmed when the signs were ripped down, and the taggers went to work.
