Kingfisher Turns 20

Kingfisher Bar and Grill, a Tucson gem, turns 20 years old on Sept. 1. In celebration of the anniversary, and as a thanks to its patrons, Kingfisher will be running specials from its original menu—at the original prices—for the entire month. Kingfisher, 2564 E. Grant Road, also is donating 20 percent of gross sales for the first 20 days of September to the Tucson Community Food Bank. Happy birthday, Kingfisher. We wish you many, many more years. It's that time of year again. Pack up lunch for the little ones, dress them in new clothes and send them off for some learnin'. But why should the kids be the only ones to better themselves? How about some cooking classes from some of the city's best chefs?

Donna Nordin, former co-owner and executive chef of the now closed (but still beloved) Café Terra Cotta, has announced her series of intimate cooking classes. They include preparation of three to four recipes, and lunch with libations. Some of the recipes are for Terra Cotta classics that we all miss dearly. It's no secret that the restaurant business slows down in Tucson during the summer. Many local eateries like to take advantage of that fact and close for extended periods. Wine Not?

Pillsbury Vineyards is hosting a harvest festival at its tasting room in Cottonwood on Sept. 1. The event will feature wines from the winemaker and host, Sam Pillsbury, available by the glass or bottle.
