Keep On Truckin'
Fall is around the corner, which means the weather will be perfect for food trucks, and a few new trucks have emerged around town just in time.
The theme at Cheesy Riders is that great American classic, grilled cheese. I had the opportunity to sample the menu, and it includes many incarnations of the ooey-gooey comfort food on fresh breads from Bakehouse Bread. Check out facebook.com/CheesyTruck or follow @TheCheesyRider on Twitter.
Zany Beaver, a French-Canadian inspired food truck, focuses on poutine, one of Canada's favorite comfort foods. Poutine is made with fresh, hand-cut pommes (french fries) and locally sourced cheese curds, and covered in a secret gravy sauce. More info is at wwzanybeaver.com and @ZanyBeaver on Twitter.
Lucky Girl Café, a Vietnamese/burgers fusion truck, features burgers done with classic bahn mi flavors and toppings. Try both of Nancy's signature aiolis—ginger and Thai chili—for a real flavor punch. Follow Lucky Girl at facebook.com/LuckyGirlCafe.
Bob Dobbs Reopens
University-area bar and grill Bob Dobbs is open again after a brief hiatus following a fire that started in the neighboring Rincon Market. Stop in for one of the popular burgers or to have a drink with one of the most eclectic bar crowds around. Rincon Market is still in the repair and renovation phase. Bob Dobbs is at 2501 E. Sixth St. Call 325-3767.
From the Rumor Machine
Word in the food scene is that Beyond Bread has applied for a liquor license in an attempt to bolster evening business. The restaurant is still some time away from serving libations, but this has to be good news for those of you who enjoy a glass of good cabernet with your turkey sandwich and broccoli soup.
And here's some great news for those who enjoy hoisting a pint of locally made beer. Blackrock Brewery, is in the process of securing a location on the eastside for a brewery and tasting room. Stay tuned for information on the location and the opening date.
