Beer Dinner at the Cup

Sommelier David Torkko will lead beer lovers through a four-course dinner paired with Merchant du Vin selections at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, June 15. Merchant du Vin is a specialty beer importer established in 1978, before U.S. breweries began making various specialty brews. Cup Café chef Mike Byrer has created a menu that pairs perfectly with Torkko's selections. The dinner costs $65, and tickets are available online or by calling Hotel Congress at 622-8848.

Mystery at St. Philip's Plaza

A banner announcing a new restaurant at St. Philip's Plaza, 4340 N. Campbell Ave., directs potential patrons to a website with a cryptic name, whatisbodega.com.

According to the site, "BODEGA | kitchen + wine will bring you a unique dining experience. Inspired by the tradition of Spanish tapas, our menu will feature both Spanish and locally sourced ingredients that are creatively prepared. Our diverse wine selection and innovative cocktails will be reasonably priced, with something for every palate. Our comfortable and casual environment will be ideal for any occasion and ... is best enjoyed with great companions."

The phone number on the site wasn't connected as of press time.

Jax and The Abbey to Get Another Sibling?

Speaking of Jax Kitchen, it looks like the Metzger family is planning to open a third Tucson restaurant. The Metzgers, who own Jax Kitchen and The Abbey, announced in an email last week that "IT IS ALMOST OFFICIAL. We are growing! I am planning a 'potential investor' night at the Abbey sometime in June. If you would like to hear more, please email me. Growth is fun, and the newest addition to the Metzger Family Restaurants is coming! Hint: Giovanni is up next!"
