Noshing Around

Kickstarter Victory

Tucson's newest brewery, Sentinel Peak Brewing Co., has reached its $27,500 Kickstarter campaign goal. Jeremy Hilderbrand, Matt Gordon and Taylor Carter hope to open the brewery Aug. 15 at 4746 E. Grant Road. There are at least seven backers at "the Norm Peterson level" who each pledged $500. We can never have too much beer, I say.

Edible Baja Arizona

From their website: "Edible Baja Arizona is a new bi-monthly food and culture publication that celebrates the joys of eating locally, explores the rich food heritages of this region, and advocates for the importance of rebuilding our regional food sheds." I know that they have tapped some great minds for contributions and I'm excited to see the first issue.

The official launch party for Edible Baja Arizona will be hosted at MOCA, Saturday, June 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. with a block party celebrating local Tucson musical and culinary talent. A food truck extravaganza will take place on the closed street outside with Planet of the Crepes, Kadooks, DC Jumbie and Twisted Tandoor, and ice cream by Isabella's Ice Cream. Borderlands Brewing Company and Dos Cabezas Wineworks will be supplying refreshments.

Closed on Broadway

Bella D'Auria, located at 4445 E. Broadway Blvd., is closed. A post on Facebook stated that the tough economy is the cause. Chef owner Lorenzo D'Auria opened the restaurant one year ago in May.

Chance to Explore

Last week I talked about how things slow down around here and how some places change their hours and some close all together. The up side to the lazy summers is the superb deals local restaurants put out to keep us Tucsonans entertained.

Some examples: Kingfisher has its annual summer road trip deals. Its sister restaurant, Bluefin, has its Lobster Special up and running; a one-pound lobster and sides for $20.13. The Grill at Hacienda del Sol is offering a three-course menu for $29, which includes choice of an appetizer, entrée, and dessert from the a la carte menu. This special runs every Sunday thru Tuesday from now until September. There are many more, so be adventurous and take advantage of these deals. See if that place you always thought was above your pay grade has something going on, and enjoy the Tucson summer.
