Noshing Around

U-Pick Tuesdays

If you want to score some fresh veggies and help out a great cause, consider stopping by the Tucson Village Farm for U-Pick Tuesdays. The farm, at 4210 N. Campbell Ave., teaches kids and their families how to grow and cook their own food. It also lets people pick their own veggies from 3 to 5 p.m., every Tuesday. The produce is sold by the pound, and proceeds support the Farm Camp Scholarship Fund; www.tucsonvillagefarm.org.

Community Cultivator

A sommelier and local-food advocate has teamed up with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona to start a new farm. Noel Patterson farms about a quarter-acre at the Food Bank's Marana Heritage Farm, at 12375 N. Heritage Park Drive in Marana, through the Community Cultivator Program. His crop of greens, carrots, garlic and other interesting things is thriving. The produce goes to eateries like 47 Scott and Primo, but can also be purchased at Patterson's Dos Manos Farm table at the farmers' market at Maynards Market and Kitchen, 400 N. Toole Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Flores is also opening a Sir Veza's at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and has said he'd like to take the concept nationwide.
