Kool Tortas is a Mexican sandwich shop that opened about a month ago at 4547 S. Sixth Ave. We found cheese, pineapple, guacamole, onions, steak, ham, bacon and many other items sandwiched between soft, delicious bread. They serve tacos, too, and have a small salsa bar. Purists may scoff, but the world must know about Tucson Tamale Company's Thanksgiving tamales. These little bundles of holiday joy are made by enveloping roasted turkey, cranberries, onions, celery and carrots in a sage masa, says owner Todd Martin. Seoul Kitchen is a new family-owned Korean restaurant at 4951 E. Grant Road. Warm miso soup and two types of kimchi—one made from cabbage, the other from radishes—arrived with our order, as did the eatery's owner, who offered helpful tips on the best way to enjoy our dinners. We also enjoyed the tiny yogurt drinks that accompanied the bill, ostensibly intended to cool the lingering heat from our amply spiced meals. Call 881-7777 for more information.
Tooley's Café at 278 E. Congress St. has closed; a new art-related concept will be opening there. The astronomy-themed Sky Bar in the old North on Fourth spot at 536 N. Fourth Ave. is open for business, and it looks absolutely, ahem, stellar. Agave Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Lounge at 12152 N. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Suite 160, has closed. Boca, the high-end taco joint going in at the old Greasy Tony's location at 828 E. Speedway Blvd., was supposed to open by the end of October, but a look inside makes us believe the opening could still be some time off.
