Taste of South Tucson

South Tucson is home to some authentic, delicious food, so we're excited about the Taste of South Tucson event, taking place at the House of Neighborly Service (243 W. 33rd St.) from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. Tastes of Thanksgiving

Try it before you buy it when Whole Foods Market locations at 3360 E. Speedway Blvd. and 7133 N. Oracle Road roll out free samples of potatoes, stuffing, creamed corn, turkey and desserts from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. Call 795-9844 or 297-5394 for more information.

Speaking of Thanksgiving ...

Janos Wilder holds a "Tucson Thanksgiving" class at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. Attendees will learn how to roast a turkey using chile-lime paste while preparing trimmings like ginger-pumpkin mousse and chipotle-molasses sweet potatoes. $50; call 615-6100, or visit to register or for more information.

Wilder also said he's still planning on opening a downtown eatery, but solid plans are not yet in place.

Burger City

We were starting to think there was trouble in Burger City (47 N. Sixth Ave.) after it closed for renovations and then didn't reopen or have anyone answering the phone for months. However, a press release issued last week says the eatery will reopen soon, and there's word that the new Burger City 2 at 5350 E. Broadway Blvd will, too. Both places were originally slated to be open in early September.

Food Donations Needed

The Primavera Foundation seeks donations of prepared food to be served on Thanksgiving Day. Hot food can be dropped off on Thanksgiving morning; cold food can be delivered the day before. Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre World

The Travel Channel recently stopped by El Charro Café (311 N. Court Ave.) to film an episode of Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre World. Zimmern tried the carne seca and nopalitos, which were probably a nice break from all the brains and bugs he's forever devouring. No word yet on when the episode will air.
