Elle: Still Open for Business

A recent article in Inside Tucson Business created a stir by reporting that Elle Wine Country Restaurant, located in the Broadway Village at Broadway Boulevard and Country Club Road, would not have a future at that location, according to the center's new landlord. Currently, Elle is still open at 3048 E. Broadway Blvd., while management actively looks for another restaurant space. Chef/owner Jeff Fuld stated, "Elle may be moving, but it's not going away." Call 327-0500 or visit ellerestaurant.com.

Coming Soon

The Grill at Dove Mountain will open in December, operated by the owners of VinTabla. Also in the northwest comes Harvest, in the former Torino Ristorante location (10355 N. La Cañada Drive). Harvest debuts, possibly in November, thanks to the owners of Zona 78 and Hacienda del Sol Resort, who have formed the MaRKeT Restaurant Group.

As The Dish Turns

The Dish went on a summer hiatus, serving only cold plates, beer and wine while re-tooling some kitchen aspects. In the interim, one chef resigned, and another with impeccable experience came on board to redo all of the big plates and make seasonal updates. On Friday, Aug. 8--the official day of the new menu's launch--the new chef came to owner Tom Smith and said he couldn't go on. Smith called two former employees who were, amazingly, available and came to help.

Around 4 p.m., a chef walked in with a résumé looking for a job. Smith auditioned him for the evening, and he passed with flying colors. The new chef is Martin Swindells, formerly of Wildflower and 58 Degrees. The menu has small, green, deep and big dishes, as well as what could be one of Tucson's best desserts--the insanely delicious ginger tart, at 3131 E. First St.; 326-0121.
