So Long, Bistro Zin
Fox Restaurant Concepts closed Bistro Zin on Monday, May 21. According to a news release, Fox will open a new restaurant in the space at 1865 E. River Road in September with a new concept featuring burgers and beers. Employees at Bistro Zin will be offered positions at the other Fox restaurants, as well as the opportunity to return to the River Road location when it reopens. Bistro Zin gift certificates may be redeemed at any of the other Fox restaurants--NoRTH, Blanco, Sauce, Montana Avenue and Wildflower.
Barbecue and Fireworks
Start your Memorial Day celebration early at the Westward Look Resort on Sunday, May 27, with an all-American outdoor barbecue buffet from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A fireworks display follows at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for adults, and $15 for children 12 and younger. Slow Food Tucson Donations
The second Slow Food Film Festival, held in January 2007, was a smashing success. Proceeds from the event benefited five local groups: $1,000 to Tucson Community Supported Agriculture to purchase kitchen utensils for cooking demonstrations; $1,000 to Native Seeds/SEARCH to support the organization's farm, garden and community projects; $500 to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society of Pima Community College to launch a seminar on genetically modified foods; $500 to Slow Food USA's RAFT (Renewing America's Food Traditions) project, specifically for the Navajo-Churro lamb; and $500 to the Pima Foundation of Pima Community College for a Slow Food Tucson culinary scholarship.Planning is underway for the Slow Food Tucson 2008 Film Festival (Jan. 10-13), which will feature screenings of classic food films, including Like Water for Chocolate and Fried Green Tomatoes, as well as new submissions and meals at Tucson restaurants. Information will be posted at slowfoodtucson.org as it becomes available.
