Olive Tree Turns 30Congratulations to John Condiss, owner (along with his ex-wife) of Olive Tree Greek Restaurant for 30 years of business. This is no small feat in the restaurant business, especially for an independent restaurant. The Olive Tree is open weekdays for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and dinner daily from 5 p.m. Happy hour is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. with a bar menu and specially priced cocktails and wine. The best-selling items include lamb chops, fresh fish, saganaki (flambéed Greek cheese) and spinach feta pies. They also cater and have a private room that seats 50 at 7000 E. Coming Soon: Another ChopstixChopstix Asian Diner will open a 3,104-square-foot restaurant in Cortaro Crossings, a new 20,000-square-foot retail center being built west of the northwest corner of Cortaro Road and Interstate 10 in Marana. This will be Chopstix's second Tucson location; the first is at 3820 S. Palo Verde Road. The Marana location is slated for a February opening.
Closed and Revolving DoorsFuego, under the direction of Alan Zeman, closed last week after being in business for 11 years. It will reopen as a Firkin Pub franchise, one of four in development in the Tucson area, according to the Web site www.firkinpubs.com. Currently, there are 33 Firkin pubs in Canada and eight in the United States.
Trattoria Giuseppe at 6761 E. Tanque Verde Road closed but will reopen soon with a new concept called Bistro 44. The phone number (298-2233) remains the same. Amereno's Little Italy on the far eastside closed; according to the restaurant's voicemail, management is looking to relocate.
