Noshing Around

Kids' Health Day

On Saturday, Sept. 16, Sprouts Farmers Market in Oro Valley hosts a "Back to School Is Cool" kids' health day to educate families about their children's well-being. The store will offer food samples, healthy food tips, a raffle and more fun activities for kids, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sprouts is located at 7665 N. Oracle Road; 297-5446.

UNO Nutrition

There must be something in the Oro Valley air, nutrition-wise, because UNO Chicago Grill hosts nutrition days on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16, at their 10180 N. Oracle Road location. Corporate nutritionist Adam Sachs will be present to answer questions and introduce the restaurant's new nutrition kiosk. More than 150 food-festival posters will be suspended from the ceiling, and healthy snacks will be served. Children in grades first through fifth can use their favorite popcorn ball recipe to enter the popcorn sculpture contest and win prizes for their classroom. Call UNO for details at 878-0222.

Krispy Kreme and Tucson Originals

After Krispy Kreme abruptly closed its doors, former employees were invited to apply for jobs at Tucson Originals restaurants. To date, three found employment at Cuvée World Bistro, and two at Beyond Bread.

Limited-Edition Wine Experience

This year, the Tucson Culinary Festival will be held Friday through Sunday, Oct. 6-8, at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. Wine connoisseurs will not want to miss the reserve tasting on Friday, Oct. 6, which is limited to 200 guests for sampling boutique wines with paired appetizers from selected restaurants. Guests will receive their own Riedel Crystal wine glass and have the opportunity to hobnob with wine authorities and chefs. For tickets, visit .

El Guero Canelo

For fans who love this joint but don't live near the southside, a small stand with limited offerings can be found at 2480 N. Oracle Road, just north of Grant Road. But what's more amazing is all the construction going on in front--it looks like a very large restaurant is on the way.
