Philanthropy With Phlavor

It's that time of the year again when Pastiche Modern Eatery will donate 5 percent of the tab to your favorite nonprofit charity during the month of June. This year, they're taking it up a notch and will include purchases in the Pastiche Wine Shop as well. On Sunday and Monday, June 11 and 12, Pastiche also celebrates the wine shop's first anniversary. Ten percent of all wine sales during the celebration will be donated to Casa de los Niños. The celebration includes an ongoing wine tasting, cheese sampling, a chocolate fountain, raffle prizes and the fabulous sounds of Tom Patrick's latest Big Band Express CD. Half-Price Drinks

La Placita Café, located in Plaza Palomino (2950 N. Swan Road), offers all alcoholic beverages, margaritas, beer and wine at half price until Labor Day. Although there is no bar, diners are invited to have drinks and appetizers. Under new ownership, La Placita Café serves authentic Oaxacan and Sonoran recipes without lard. Lunch is served Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; dinner is offered nightly from 5 to 9 p.m.; 881-1150.

Chain Gang

On June 1, Peter Piper Pizza opened a new store at 7631 N. Oracle Road. The location creates 35 jobs and features award programs to local schools and youth groups. Call 575-0770 for information. Also, Milwaukee-based chain Cousins Subs, known for their larger-than-average sandwiches, plans to add five more Tucson locations during the next 18 months.

Heavenly Hots

Terra Cotta recently started serving Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Heavenly hots are pancakes that were previously on the menu during the 1980s. Build-your-own eggs benedict and goat-cheese-stuffed prawns are among the other items. All entrées include coffee or tea, fresh baked goods and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, prickly pear lemonade or a mimosa for $20.
