New: French Twist Café

Located at 10110 N. Oracle Road next to Vino 100, French Twist Café recently opened, serving casual breakfast and lunch Tuesday through Saturday, and a full-service brunch on Sunday. Chris and Gwen Belanger are classically trained chefs who bake Euro-style artisan breads and pastries, roast their own turkey and roast beef and make flourless crepes. Cancer Fundraiser at RA

From May 28 through June 3, RA Sushi will host their second annual weeklong fundraiser benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Nicky Mailliard of Scottsdale, who lost a valiant fight with brain cancer last year at age 13. All of the proceeds from tootsy maki, edamame, pork gyoza, Fiji water, Red Bull and selected beverages will be donated. RA is located at 2905 E. Skyline Drive; 615-3970.

Safeway Closed for Remodeling

For downtown dwellers, UA students and Sam Hughes residents, the 17th Street Market's press release announces the availability of competitively priced staples in the store's expanded dairy, along with meats, fish and a great selection of Asian and organic produce. Please note that on a scorching day, the produce department is a cool 57 degrees, at 840 E. 17th St.; 792-2588.

Wild Ginger Lounge

Starting Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the Cascade Lounge at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort transforms into an enlightened place where the Far East meets the Wild West. You can expect retro dance music on Fridays from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.; '80s techno on Saturdays during the same hours; and chill-out lounge music Sundays from 4 to 8 p.m. There's no cover charge, but you can buy $5 Asian-inspired drinks, along with pupus and mini pizzas. Loews is located at 7000 N. Resort Drive, in the Catalina foothills.

Memorial Day Munch

Men and women in the military (active, reserve and retired) get a hero's welcome by showing their I.D. and eating for half price at any Metro Restaurant during the Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29. The offer excludes alcoholic beverages and cigars.
