Noshing Around

Meal Deals for $20

Staying in Tucson has its perks when the temperatures peak and dining prices plummet. The independent restaurants banded together under the Tucson Originals banner have some great deals for you, starting June 1 and going through Aug. 31. Here's a sampling:

Five locations of Magpies offer two large pizzas with two toppings.

At Fuego, enjoy a prime rib or fresh Alaskan halibut dinner with soup or salad and dessert; 6958 E. Tanque Verde Road; 886-1745.

Chad's Steakhouse serves chicken or steak fajitas for two at 3001 N. Swan Road; 881-1802.

Savor a salad, entrée and dessert from the regular menu at Feast; 4122 E. Speedway Blvd.; 326-9363.

Think happy hour at Cuvée World Bistro and order two appetizers and two glasses of wine for two people from 4 to 7 p.m. daily and 10 p.m. to midnight on weekends, located at 3352 E. Speedway Blvd.; 881-7577.

Downtown at the Barrio Grill, graze two small plates and a glass of house wine or beer; 135 S. Sixth Ave.; 619-0191.

Hard to find but worth the effort: Livorno, A Country Bistro, welcomes you for a house salad, stuffed chicken breast and strawberry shortcake, located at 5931 N. Oracle Road; 887-5171.

Philanthropy with Phlavor

It's that time of the year again when Pastiche Modern Eatery will donate 5 percent of the bill to your favorite nonprofit charity. If you don't have a favorite charity, please consider Arizona Greyhound Rescue, which transitions and finds permanent loving homes for retired racers. Pastiche also has a $20 meal deal of baby green salad and thyme-crusted sea bass; 3025 N. Campbell Ave.; 325-3333.

Wine With Everything

When it gets hot, I like a cold beer, but Tucsonans love their wine. Through Sept. 30, get a bottle at half the regular price on Mondays at Bistro Zin and Tuesdays at Wildflower, located at 1865 E. River Road (299-7799) and 7037 N. Oracle Road (219-4230), respectively.
