Fire Closes Takamatsu

Takamatsu (5532 E. Speedway Blvd.) was closed earlier this week after a fire caused about $400,000 in damage—but owners are already planning a return. Peter Koga, who owns the local eatery and locations in Chandler and Phoenix with his family, says efforts are already underway to fix the extensive damage. A Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman said the fire was caused by a burner that had been left on beneath a teppan yaki table. Koga says fans of the restaurant will be given regular updates on the repairs via the eatery's Facebook page.

The Cupcake Shuffle

Mini's Cupcakes is moving from La Encantada at 2905 E. Skyline Drive to Casas Adobes Plaza at 7059 N. Oracle Road, says owner Jaynie Rossi. The original location will close Wednesday, June 30; the new location is expected to open in the first week of August. However, Peter Sutter, owner and operator of Red Velvet Cupcakery at 943 E. University Blvd., Suite 165, says he's opening a second location at La Encantada. He's shooting for an early-August opening as well.

South Side PJ's Subs

Jay Tolkoff, owner of PJ's Subs T6 Filling Station at 2500 E. Sixth St., says he's opening a PJ's Subs location at 3760 S. Park Ave. Tolkoff wasn't sure when it would open, but said delivery will be available in a limited area on the southside when it does.

Heavy Metal and Wine

It's amazing that the people at Hotel Congress found enough common ground between wine and bands like Mötley Crüe and Judas Priest that they can organize an entire tasting around it. It's also rather amazing that the BulletBoys survived late-'80s hair rock and will be performing after the tasting. The tasting starts at 6 p.m., Sunday, June 27, followed by the concert at 8 p.m. $13 for the tasting. The concert is $10 in advance; or $12 at the door. A ticket for both is $20, and those in heavy-metal garb get drink specials; www.hotelcongress.com.
