Noshing Around

Coming Soon: Imperial Fish and Chips

Kudos to Tom Walbank, who will be opening his Imperial Fish and Chips restaurant later this month downtown. Please support downtown restaurants and businesses as they cope with road closures, detours and an ongoing mess.

Closing: Firecracker

At Plaza Palomino (Swan and Fort Lowell roads), Firecracker Bistro will close on Dec. 24. It will reopen in late January as country French bistro with cuisine by an award winning five-diamond chef, Philippe Trosch, who formerly worked at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. Say goodbye to the rooftop fire special effects.

Eat Sushi for Charity

KWMT FM 92.9 The Mountain morning-show DJs Jennie Grabel and Blake Rogers each created their own custom sushi rolls--the Pima Meal Wheel and Tuna Dito Roll--to benefit their favorite Tucson-based charities, Pima Meals and Tu Nidito. Eat their sushi through Wednesday, Dec. 12, then come join the party on that night from 5 to 7 p.m. at RA Sushi, 2905 E. Skyline Drive, in La Encantada; 615-3970.

Cookbook Signing

Also at Plaza Palomino, Judith Baigent (formerly Berger) will sign her Culinary Concepts cookbook on Saturdays, Dec. 8 and 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. Browse the store and sample recipes at 2930 N. Swan Road; 321-0968. According to the Web site BizBuySell, Culinary Concepts is for sale.

Award-Winning Margarita

For those of you fortunate enough to have been part of the enthusiastic throng of people packed into Cuvée World Bistro during the Tucson Culinary Festival margarita contest, the award-winning ginger-lime margarita is back on the menu. It has two ounces of tequila, citrus and fresh ginger, topped with Grand Marnier. The housemade potato chips make an apt accompaniment at 3352 E. Speedway Blvd.; 881-7577.

Open Christmas Day

Are you open on Christmas Day selling food at everyday prices? If yes, let me know, as not everyone wants a pricey banquet on that day. Please send the info by Dec. 12.

Last Chance: New Year's Guide

List your New Year's Eve/Day food-related event in an expanded article later this month. Please send me all the info no later than Dec. 10 for inclusion. Put "New Year's Guide" in subject line.
