Ripe for the Picking

The new Sunflower Market raises the bar a notch or three in grocery shopping. Housed in a former IGA on the eastside, Sunflower rivals a more-affordable Wild Oats with a splash of Trader Joe's. Look for weekly sales and eager-to-please service at 7877 E. Broadway Blvd. at Pantano Road. Two cartons of fresh strawberries for $3 actually tasted more like strawberries than any I've tasted in Tucson to date. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Another Sunflower will come to midtown by September 2004. Hooray!

James Beard Nomination

Congratulations to local radio broadcaster Jennifer English, for her 2004 James Beard nomination for I Know What You Ate Last Summer. English's show can be heard on the Food and Wine Radio Network.

Embracing the 1040

Aussie + Winemaker = Dinner

Join winemaker Jane Ferrari, of the six-generation Yalumba Winery (Australia's oldest family-owned winery), and Westward Look Resort's Executive Chef Chris Pederson (recently promoted through the ranks) for a five-course wine and food pairing on April 13 at 6:30 p.m. There will be shrimp on the barbie, of course, but it'll be prepared with sweet sake wasabi caviar and served alongside other exotic and familiar offerings.
