Nine Questions

Cord Boyd

Emo music will never die thanks to desert rats like Cord Boyd. Boyd is the co-owner of Gary's Place (formerly TLMS), and plays bass for a Tucson melodic gloom band, Help Me Sleep. You can find the 21-year-old folding "Doctor Who" T-shirts, and hustling Devil Wears Prada vinyl at Hot Topic in the Tucson Mall. Check out facebook.com/garysplaceaz for upcoming shows at Gary's.

What was the first concert you attended?

Garth Brooks at McKale Center when I was 3 years old. I still have the T-shirt.

What are you listening to these days?

Comeback Kid, Letlive, Joyce Manor, Terror and Hawthorne Heights.

What was the first album you owned?

The first album I bought on my own was AFI's "Decemberunderground."

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?

The whole scene/hair metal kinda thing. (ex. Black Veil Brides) A band like that just came through Gary's Place and so many kids came out. It just seems like they're ripping off Mötley Crüe to me.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?

It's a solid tie between Paul McCartney or Prince.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Taylor Swift, for sure.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

"To All My Friends" by Atmosphere.

What artist changed your life and how?

Hawthorne Heights for sure. When I first got into them I was an angsty pre-teen and they were really the first band whose music I could identify with and draw emotion from.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

The Beatles' "Revolver."
