Nine Questions

Laura Adams-Reese

When Laura Adams-Reese moved back to Tucson, she started volunteering at the best radio station in the world--KXCI. When she's not at the station, she's running Storyteller Public Relations, a restaurant and food PR firm. She enjoys living in downtown, listening to Salvador Duran at Congress on Thursdays, and eating frozen taquitos from Trader Joe's.

What was the first concert you attended?

It was 1994, I was 12, and I begged my mom to call Mix FM and win concert tickets to Celine Dion. She was opening for Michael Bolton. Yep...

What are you listening to these days?

Electronic music out of Britain like Disclosure, Bonobo, Jessie Ware. My husband just opened aCaribbean restaurant downtown, so also a lot of Bossa Nova.

What was the first album you owned?

Amy Grant's Heart in Motion.

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?

Deer Tick. That 'listen-and-you-can-hear-that-I'm-a-chain-smoker voice seems so inauthentic. It gets on my nerves.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?

I would give my right arm to see Sam Cooke perform live at the Harlem Square Club in 1963. Best. Live. Album. Ever. I melt to the ground every time I hear him wail.

Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?

Oh gosh. So many. I used to have a segment on KXCI called "Secret Shame" where I'd play a guilty pleasure each week. I suppose my favorites could be summed up as any song danced to during the dance line on Soul Train.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

"Come Thou Fount" by Sufjan Stevens.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

T Model Ford... specifically when he played Plush in April 2011. Out of nowhere, during the show, my date looked over and said he was falling in love with me. Two years later, I married that guy.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Boom. I'm dead. Couldn't decide before they pulled the trigger.
