Nine Questions

John Read

John Read is a bass player turned animator. He cites his current involvement with the crew at Powhaus Productions as his favorite unhindered creative outlet. When he's not twisting pixels around, he can often be found gardening or home-brewing various social lubricants for his friends.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

Rush at the Tucson Convention Center. I wasn't a big fan at the time, but they pretty much blew my mind.

What are you listening to these days?

It's usually all over the place. Right now, I'd say Die Antwoord, CSS, Patti LuPone, We Have Band and Lustmord.

What was the first album you owned?

It was either AC/DC, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, or a Shalamar album whose name I can't remember.

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?

Blues. It's not for me.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?

I would love to have seen the original cast of Wicked at the Gershwin Theater.

Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?

French Ye-Ye. Pop dolls like France Gall, Françoise Hardy, Chantal Kelly, even April March.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

I would like to be eulogized by the great Reverend Horton Heat, who afterward would belt out "Big Red Rocket of Love."

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

Man ... let's say all of them, in ways I'm sure I can't comprehend.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

I was thinking about giving it to Radiohead, Kid A, but on further reflection, I'd say ABBA Gold.
