Nine Questions

24-year-old Paul Jenkins is a former progressive rock keyboardist (Swivelfish, Acquiescence) who currently fronts local act Music Video, a runner-up for Best Album at this year's TAMMIES awards. He also works at Zip's CD and Video, and moonlights as moderator of the "Scenegirlofthedayclub" on myspace.com.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

A few of my friends have already been bestowed with this honor, and I was starting to get a little jealous. That being said, my first concert was Public Enemy with Big Daddy Kane and Ice Cube, August 31, 1990 at the TCC.

What CDs are in your changer right now?

My stereo just recently broke down, but if it hadn't ... Air's Talkie Walkie, The Microphones' Mount Eerie and Eels' Shootenanny!

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, etc.)?

I really don't feel like counting, but in all, probably 300 or so. I haven't done cassettes in ages, and just missed the boat on vinyl. I'm all about CDs, though I will admit that LPs are much cooler.

Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?

Yes, both legally and illegally. I support www.Bleep.com. I have gigabytes upon gigabytes worth of material. So many gigabytes.

What was the first album you owned?

Pretty sure it was a cassette of Stone Cold Rhymin' by Young MC.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

"I Can't Believe You Actually Died" by Mount Eerie (from the Singers LP). That or "Burn Girl Prom Queen" by Mogwai (from EP +2/6), 'cause it just keeps on going.

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

Well, I used to be totally into Dream Theater. And I do feel guilty singing along to My Chemical Romance when I'm driving around. If someone pulled up in a car next to mine, I would probably stop.

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

Radiohead and Sparklehorse, because they both made me see that there is more to life than prog.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot by Sparklehorse.
