Nine Questions

Bernie Diffin, 32, is a local high school science teacher who served as guitarist for Tex Caliber and the Terrible Two. His recent self-recorded CD, featuring four amazing alt-country songs recorded on his own computer, is available through his mom in Sault St. Marie, Mich.

What was the first concert you ever saw?

AC/DC. White Lion opened for them. (I grew up in the '80s.)

What CDs are in your changer right now?

Ryan Adams, Slobberbone, Guster and Tim O'Brien.

How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?

Over my lifetime, I have owned about 1,000 CDs, but thanks to clumsiness and thievery, I am down to about 200.

Do you download music, and if so, legally?

Let me check with my attorney and get back to you on that one.

What was the first album you owned?

Prince, Purple Rain.

What song would you like played at your funeral?

"Open All Night," Bruce Springsteen.

Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?

That would have to be Oasis. Wanderwall is still a pretty good fucking song. Guilty pleasure? Hair bands ('80s ... ).

What band or artist changed your life, and how?

No contest. The first time I heard Jay Farrar, I was hooked on Americana.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Again, no contest. Nebraska, Bruce Springsteen.
