Danny Martin

You might have seen local artist Danny Martin sketching his favorite landmarks. Martin, raised in Alabama but considers himself a Tucsonan, is currently working on a 14-by 17-inch letterpress art book titled Tucson Sketchbook Project. What was the first concert you attended?

My first concert was Korn in 1995.

What are you listening to these days?

James Brown, George Jones, The Gun Club and Prom Body.

What was the first album you owned?

The first album I purchased was ACDC's Back in Black via Columbia House for a penny!

What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?

I'm not a fan of War On Drugs.

What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?

The Ramones.

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

The hair metal genre.

What song would you like to have played at your funeral?

It would have to "Live Fast, Die Young" by the Circle Jerks, or maybe Van Halen's "Runnin' with the Devil."

What artist changed your life and how?

Any band I listened to in junior high; specifically, Creedence Clearwater Revival, King Diamond, the Queers, Cryptic Slaughter, Johnny Cash, the Misfits, Slayer, the Clash, the Ramones and Social Distortion.

Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?

Hank Williams' Greatest Hits.  Is it a cop out to name a compilation? (Laughs) First alternate would be (The Clash's) London Calling.
