Tom Moore has lived in Tucson for eight years, arriving from Austin via Seattle. Moore left a film-production career to become a high school social-studies teacher in downtown Tucson. He is anxiously awaiting the impending summer vacation and playing guitar in local folk-rock group The Possibles. Catch The Possibles when they play next Thursday, May 19, at the Red Room at Grill.
What was the first concert you ever saw?
Joe "King" Carrasco at Austin Aqua Fest in the summer of 1983, followed closely by Quiet Riot with Whitesnake.
What are you listening to these days?
Beach House, Band of Horses, Golden Boots, The Cordials, Jesse Sykes, and I still have to listen to a little Pavement every day.
What was the first album you owned?
The first album I bought with my own money was Tom Petty's Southern Accents. I went to buy Voices Carry by 'Til Tuesday, but it was sold out.
What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don't get?
Auto-Tune vocals, trance music, jam bands.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
Jimi Hendrix and/or John Coltrane.
Musically speaking, what is your favorite guilty pleasure?
Butt rock, '80s dance music.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
The Smiths, "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want."
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
Being raised with classic rock and radio pop, I didn't know what contemporary rock could sound like until I heard "Rock the Casbah" by The Clash. It helped that the video was shot in my hometown. For me, those guys opened a can of musical worms.
