What was the first concert you ever saw?
My sister took me to see a benefit concert with Jimmy Buffett, Ringo Starr and James Taylor when I was in the third or fourth grade. Jimmy Buffett stole the show.
What CDs are in your changer right now?
Lagrimas Negras by Bebo and Cigala; III by the Yoshida Brothers; Illinois by Sufjan Stevens; Timeless, the new Sergio Mendez album with Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas; and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life.
How many total albums do you own (CDs, vinyl, cassettes, 8-tracks)?
I'd guess around 500 CDs or so. More than 100 of those are just Brazilian music.
Do you download music, and if so, legally or illegally?
Both, all the time. Whenever I realize iTunes purchases have nearly depleted my bank account, I switch over to LimeWire for a week.
What was the first album you owned?
Honestly? It must have been Raffi's Baby Beluga. But the first album I ever bought was Dookie by Green Day. They're not so different, when it comes down to it.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
Well, I haven't decided whether I want people at my funeral to be crying, dancing or laughing. Maybe I'll have a raucous klezmer band so they can do all three.
Musically speaking, what do you love that your friends don't know about? What's your favorite guilty pleasure?
I really love "My Humps." But I guess I already let on that I like the Black Eyed Peas. Also, Reggaeton has a special place in my heart.
What band or artist changed your life, and how?
Bonnie Raitt, because I was conceived in her bed. My parents were on a trip to L.A. a while back and, well, it's a long story.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
