Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

This painfully precious and self-consciously hip teen-sex comedy is partly redeemed by the amazing Michael Cera. He plays the Sad Boy Who Has Been Dumped. Kat Dennings is the Magic Pixie Girl Who Will Save Him. In spite of the fact that she’s in a role that usually only serves as male-fantasy fodder, she kind of almost fleshes the character out, and the film nearly deserves having both the lead characters’ names in the title. Otherwise, it’s a schizophrenic mess, with some great dialogue interspersed with stock characters and the most revolting, pointless and ill-placed gross-out gag I’ve seen since the Farrelly brothers released their incest sex tape. It might be worth seeing for Cera’s stunning timing and wit, but proceed with caution.
