Re: “Into the Mild: Journal From a Refugee Camp, Week Two

I don't think you're a bad person, OPV. Your black and white thinking and generalized statements about every issue I've seen you comment on worry me. The same thinking worries me when I hear it from any person with similar paradigms, no matter their ethnic background. It's this type of thinking that creates fundamentalist terrorists worldwide. We are the chosen and they are evil...it's not true and it distracts from focusing energy on those truly doing good works. People who think all Americans are evil operate with the same kind of myopic thinking patterns. If I'm able to respond to these simplistic thinking patterns I do so, and I couldn't care less where the person comes from or what they do.

Misplaced altruism is a curious thing for you to focus on when I believe you have a lot of misplaced hate. I'd rather see altruism and it's effects than hate and it's effects being spread, misplaced or not. There are lots and lots of people in the world creating hateful, destructive effects on their environments and they are spread out pretty evenly. That's what I learned from traveling. No one ethnicity or nation has a monopoly on good or bad.

If we can recognize this and stop operating from heuristics that don't match reality we can start supporting those creating growth and stop supporting those creating destruction just because we share a nationality or ethnicity.

I think you're probably a pretty decent guy in your day-to-day and you obviously care about your city which is something a lot of people don't seem to think about. Even if I disagree with you, it doesn't mean I don't like you or think you a bad person.

Re: “Do You Need a Hug? Get One Tomorrow from the 'Free Hugs' Guy

Lol, OPV. I think you have to be at least 50% plastic and have a vagina before Trump will let you give him a hug, though.

Are you even rich enough for Trump to recognize you as human?

Re: “Local Heroes 2015

"It's not about giving kids what they deserve or what is fair, but making sure they get what they need."

That quote is the closest to the truth I may ever come. Thank you for these articles! Thank you to all the heroes!

Re: “Letter to the Editor

Actually we are all one race, so yes, rational people are advocating a world of just one race. See, that's why we call it the human race.

That there is more than one race was a social construct used to rationalize the dehumanization of blacks when they were enslaved. As an ethnic group blacks are still dehumanized, hence Black Lives Matter.

You poor, sad, confused trolls. You've spent so long being brainwashed into thinking white lives matter more that when people say black lives matter you think it erodes your self worth.

Re: “Letter to the Editor

Wanting to hold law enforcement officers of any kind to high standards of ethical conduct is motivated by rational self interest, Mr. Old Pueblo.

I'm curious what motivates your comments. Did you lose your job to an undocumented worker?

Re: “What Will a $350 Million Increase For K-12 Schools Buy?

I'm just convinced that the vast majority of people in America...the world... are mentally ill and it manifests in black and white thinking patterns. That's why it's so easy to pretend that either Americans or immigrants, Muslims or Chrstians, the rich or the poor, (pick dichotomous label) are to blame for everything. There are "good" guys and "bad" guys instead of individuals with privately competing interests living together with interconnected interests that create and effect each other. The latter takes thought, acknowledgment of reality, the possibility that we aren't the chosen people and effort beyond parroting what the leader of the current in-group is saying.

David, do you believe that low wages are solely the product of immigration? If so, why do you believe this? What studies convinced you?
