Re: “A Comparative Look at TUSD's AzMERIT Scores

We are grandparents now, but our kids went through TUSD --Wrightstown (now razed and surrounded by Charters), Magee, Sahuaro, Sabino, and are grateful for every day they spent
in TUSD. I read your education column avidly, David Safier, and keep it up. Someone has to
objectively compare and contrast, and tell us about it honestly. You do a great job. Thanks!

Re: “Everybody in Arizona Is For Education

Keep the Education blogs coming, David Safier! Having had three kids graduate from TUSD before Charters, I watch this wild west of Charters take hold. I remember wonderful old Wrightstown Elementary, where my kids went. (2 lawyers and 1 MD) Wrightstow has been razed. Several charter schools surround the housing development that has taken the place of the school we loved .
For those wanting an impartial look at Charters, join the League of Women Voters and find out their results as well. The LWV meeting on Charters that I attended revealed the lack of oversight and regulation of Charters at the State Level. Some were good. Some were excellent. Many many poor.
More and better Charter oversight is needed, as are your blogs, David. Thanks.

Re: “An Incomplete Look at the Koch Brothers' Influence in Arizona

The Koch money has brought us Governor Ducey, and contributed to the weakening of our public school system in Arizona. Jane Mayer's "Dark Money" tells it all. Are we proud of our state's public school rankings? Do public schools have a future in Arizona?

The League of Women Voters study of Charter School's state oversight discovered that there was very little. Is this what we want for Arizona? I'm glad that my children went to public schools in Tucson and received a good education many years ago. I doubt the same chance exists today.

Re: “A Little Late To the 'Patriotically Correct' Party

There is a power shift happening as we sit here. Even talk show hosts, basketball players, football players are getting into the action. The old power structure (Why hasn't Kaepernick been hired yet?) is beginning to show signs of age. And people are speaking up (Steve Kerr!) . I'm surprised it's happening as fast as it is. What's next?

Re: “BASIS Connives to Maintain Its Elite Charter School Status in Baton Rouge

Another fascinating story by David Safier. Sure, there are other viewpoints (the comments above), but David's tells something which has been ignored by much of the press. Good to hear both sides of the story by commenters and by David, but where else do you get a report like David's? Much appreciated.

Re: “Tucson Marches for Equality

This is what democracy looks like! What an experience to be part of this march, to hear our Mayor Rothschild give a supportive speech, to see and hear enthusiasm for joining together to support what so many of us believe in: autonomy over our own bodies, women's rights, support for the downtrodden. Congratulations, Tucson Weekly for the great video. I have sent it onward via Youtube.
