There will be a fire of sorts at the Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures starting on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The fire will burn through Nov. 2, but there's no cause for alarm. The flame will be a figurative part of the new exhibit "Fire! A Glimpse of Fire History in Miniature."
Housed within the 15,560-square-foot museum, the exhibit will feature two dozen miniatures that showcase a variety of fire-fighting equipment developed during the 20th century to fight municipal fires and wildfires. Local artist Tom Bulow created a 1:32 scale replica of the Chicago Water Tower, which was one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The exhibit also showcases scale replica fire engines, apparatus and other structures created by artists John A. Ackerman and Tom Showers. All of the artists have served in the fire services.
The Mini Time Machine is located at 4455 E. Camp Lowell Drive. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $9 general, $8 seniors, $6 youth. Visit theminitimemachine.org for more info.
