Million Dollar Arm

It’s life-affirming, and it’s a swift two hours, but Million Dollar Arm is really as procedural as an oil change. Disney’s latest real-life sports story for the whole family concerns an agent (Jon Hamm) who creates a contest to find a major league pitcher in India. They play lots of cricket there, so it’s close enough to baseball while still being a whole ’nother universe, giving his contest headline appeal. There’s nothing wrong with Million Dollar Arm; in fact, it probably deserves some recognition just for being exactly what it says it will be and executing that pretty well. But while the sum of the parts is OK, the parts themselves are bland and disposable. If you’ve got a kid who loves the game, this is a decent distraction, but it’ll fade from memory by the time you get to the car.

Million Dollar Arm is not showing in any theaters in the area.
