Re: “Power Replay

Many utility companies are creatures of habit. They are used to purchasing power from traditional sources (coal fired or nuclear plants) and running power lines. Santa Cruz County and Nogales may be excellent candidates for Renewable Energy Distributed Generation (RE DG). Solar thermal generation has the ability to provide electricity for four to six hours after the sun goes down. RE DG working in concert with existing traditional supply can be a cost effective alternative to stringing more power lines, and purchasing more traditional non-renewable electricity. It has the ability to address both the continuity and capacity issues that the border area currently experiences. Mexico may be brought to the table if given an opportunity to participate in the process and the upside. Only when there are more Bohmans and Magruders speaking up will the utilities invest rate payer dollars into RE DG feasibility studies and subsequent systems.
