Re: “Danehy

The interesting thing is that the bump stock made his aim erratic, he would have been able to kill a lot more people with far more precision had he not used the bump stock, and used actual hunting ammunition rather than military full metal jacket ammo. We should be thankful that those poor decisions in his planning reduced the number of casualties. Keep in mind that he shot over 500 people and the vast majority of them survived their injuries, thank God!

Even the military, who issues fully automatic weapons to our soldiers, recommends that fully automatic fire not be used except in certain circumstances...

Bump stocks are crap, I have no desire to own one, but people have the right to own one if they wish and can use it responsibly.
It is awful, but we are better off with United States citizens being able to keep and bear arms, than we would be under a tyranny. Think of how many hundreds of millions of people have died over the past century because they lived in countries which did not recognize the right to keep and bear arms, communism alone has killed over 100 million people.

Re: “Flight Risks

Even Senator Ted Kennedy was on these watch lists...come on, show some better reporting! LOTS of people are on those lists that shouldn't be, that is the entire objection, the lack of due process (a constitutionally guaranteed right, but let's not let human rights or the constitution get in the way of political ideologies). Terrorists can easily obtain guns illegally, if they're blocked from purchasing a gun at a gun store, they'll get it another way. THIS WILL NOT STOP A SINGLE TERRORIST ATTACK.

Re: “For Pete’s Sake

Jack, UofA professors were part of the group, so what do you think? I think these special teacups are the ones acting with racism and intolerance. I somehow doubt they would have had a problem if the owner's last name was Spanish.

Re: “For Pete’s Sake

I feel all the anger and hatred being directed at this restaurant says more about the bad character of the protesters than anything about Illegal Pete's.

I would be ashamed if I were the parent of one of those kids protesting. And the professors involved should be fired. It's an embarrassment to the university, and I feel it's illegal harassment.

Re: “Protesters Swarm Mexican Restaurant Illegal Pete's Opening Night: 'Racists Enter Here' (SLIDESHOW)

The only racism I see there is the protester's. "Illegal Pete's" doesn't imply a single thing about Mexicans, immigration, or anything related to what these children seem so fired up about.

The protests will die down fast (these kids have a short attention span and no public support) and because the food is apparently delicious and reasonably priced for a place on University, the restaurant should do great! I really like that they pay above minimum wage apparently, and are very employee friendly. I've heard nothing but good about this place already (and I drive a taxi, so I speak to a lot of people).

Re: “A Bittersweet End

I had the best Valentine's evening (2011) there. I'm sorry to see the place go!
