Re: “Equatorial Equivocation

Ms. Rita Connelly,
I dare you to do your research before you write another embarrassingly misinformed review. I'm sorry that your visit to Sabor Tropical was perhaps not the most pleasant. Mine have all been pleasant and the food is exquisite and authentic to the taste of not only Colombia, but Latin America in general. I don't know about your culinary background or expertise, but as a Colombian, I know a good mojarra frita when I try it. This is the way we eat it in Colombia and for you to criticize the fact that we eat it whole and fried to crispy perfection is somewhat offensive. The arepa, my dear is not a tortilla, used to "scoop up your food" or a spoon for that matter. The seafood soup is not a thick clam chowder and it is a damn shame that you come to a Colombian restaurant and criticize it on a Mexican or American criteria. You are not only criticizing a restaurant but also completely misinterpreting an entire Latin American cuisine.

On a final note, I would like to add that the Tucson Weekly has been a wonderful resource for me. I look to it to find the best small business and restaurants but I must say that you are mistaken with Sabor Tropical and should perhaps try it again. I am sure you will be pleased. As a member of the Tucson Weekly staff, you have been so supportive of the small businesses in town. Sabor Tropical needs our support to continue growing due to its potential. A review like yours can severely hurt a small business like this. Did you think of that? Please be more considerate about what you write.
