Media, Technology and Mayhem

Two notes this week ...

· Our new media columnist makes his debut this week. Walt Nett, whose name is abundantly familiar in Tucson journalism circles, brings his decades of experience to the column. Read about his qualifications in this week's column. Walt is replacing James Reel, our arts editor--who started the column in January--because James, while remaining our arts editor, took a gig at KUAT radio. We're glad to have Walt board the figurative Weekly ship, as media coverage--with the possible impending sale of the Arizona Daily Star and continued broadcast consolidation--is more important to Tucson than ever. Welcome aboard, Walt.

· We at Weekly World Headquarters are upgrading our computer and pagination systems. This shouldn't change much of anything as far as the look and content of the paper are concerned, and when all's said and done, our lives will be easier. However, as is the case any time big changes happen, the transition period will be somewhat taxing. (For example, I currently have two computers on my desk, both of which I am using, because not everything is working right yet on the new machine.) During the next couple weeks of transition, it may take an extra day or two for us to respond to e-mails, etc. Also, if you're submitting a press release or listings request, make sure you get it to us as early as possible. Thanks for your consideration.
