The Barbie-doll Duff sisters play pampered and privileged girls who lose everything in this superficial flick for those without a driver’s license, a Y chromosome or a brain. Hilary and Haylie Duff co-star as shallow heiresses to their late father’s cosmetic company in their designer outfits and a Mercedes convertible. However, a reputation-killing scandal causes the two manicured socialites to lose their hot wheels and Prada, meaning they must succumb to public transportation and Payless shoes that are also so last season. However, the spoiled sisters endure prison and killer canines to save their father’s company from the conniving competition (Anjelica Huston). With the amateur use of split screens, the sporadic appearances of lackluster supporting characters and the inept premise, Martha Coolidge’s Material Girls is bankrupt in every way.
