In another great performance, Nicolas Cage is captivating as an obsessive-compulsive conman who gets a surprise visit from his long lost 14-year-old daughter (Alison Lohman). Director Ridley Scott, who normally specializes in movies that go boom, has put together a fantastic ensemble film that also boasts the presence of Sam Rockwell as Cage’s partner in crime. Lohman, a 24-year-old actress, is incredible as a character 10 years younger than her age, and this should be the film that gets her name remembered. The movie’s big surprise may not amount to much for many viewers, but the entire film is very much worth watching thanks to the performances of all involved. After bombing out in John Woo’s Windtalkers, Cage is on a roll with this and last year’s Adaptation.
