Re: “Ducey 'Next Step' Watch: Day 235 — State of the State Edition. Great Ideas! Terrific Ideas! Wallet Still Safely Stowed in Back Pocket.

Concerning Pedicone's departure: He knew me well before he signed his contract extension in August 2012, and I did not change over the next few months. What changed, in the November 2012 election, was two seats on the board. That is the reality, however anyone chooses to frame it.

Re: “The Skinny

Judging a newly elected official based on one journalist's account of one (fairly minor) incident after interviewing one bartender does not make sense. Rachael has already shown in many ways that she cares much about students and parents. Let us wait and see how she performs on the board. I think this year in TUSD will be different in a way that most people will like.

Re: “Tucson Unified School District Makes a Statement

What, Again: I ran an entire campaign dedicated to the platform that I am absolutely not fine with that.

Re: “Tucson Unified School District Makes a Statement

The resolution changes nothing that TUSD is doing, which complies with the law and is similar to what almost all other districts do. The board has passed similar resolutions in the past. Several votes at the same meeting had a significant effect on TUSD's actual actions and practices. It would be great if more news outlets reported the substantive content of the board meetings, rather than resolutions that have minimal or no practical impact.

Re: “Guest Opinion

Judy Burns never spent a dollar running for reelection to the TUSD board -- and was easily reelected twice.

Re: “The Skinny

As for Foster's viewpoint, others can speculate about that. I periodically renew a longstanding offer to meet her for a cup of coffee, but after more than three years I am not optimistic that it will ever be accepted.

Re: “The Skinny

I do not recall ever seeing Nintzel at a board meeting, but maybe it happened long ago. (Of course, many persons watch the video stream who rarely attend in person.) In general, I think this portrayal (I hate Foster, I am a Sith Lord, pick your flavor) comes out of a conversation that runs through a mostly closed political circle of people who rarely if ever talk to me. It is fed by persons who see me (accurately) as a threat to the status quo. Except for MAS, which was a serious issue, it rarely refers to any actual TUSD issues. That is probably because most of the public would agree with my positions on the issues, so to reduce my effectiveness the status quo must turn it into a conversation about personalities. But the people who really care about improving TUSD should pay more attention instead of simply whipping the froth.
