Margaret Regan at Raices Taller

cityweek1.jpg

For the 6 to 9 p.m. closing event of the Raices Taller 222 Art Gallery and Workshop's Chubasco, Tucson Weekly contributor Margaret Regan will read from her book "Detained and Deported," 7 p.m. at the 218 E. Sixth St. gallery. Saturday, July 25. Drawing on years of reporting in the Arizona-Mexico borderlands, Regan tells their poignant stories. Regan demonstrates how increasingly draconian detention and deportation policies have broadened police powers, while enriching a private prison industry whose profits are derived from human suffering. She also documents the rise of resistance, profiling activists and young immigrant "dreamers" who are fighting for the rights of the undocumented. For more info on the event, go to the Facebook event page or call the gallery at 881-5335.
