Magic Camp

It shouldn’t be surprising that there’s a summer camp for budding young magicians. There’s a summer camp for kid stuntmen and firefighters, and even Fiji Shark Camp, which is reserved for scuba-certified teens whose parents have $6,000 to spend for the month. Magic Camp isn’t quite that exotic, though David Copperfield does stop by some years. We meet the four finalists of a competition held early in the week; they’ll reconvene at the end of camp to crown a champion. A couple of other illusionists are featured by director Judd Ehrlich to give us more to consider than just kids vying for the prize. And it’s fine. There’s nothing here that would make you want to see a movie about a summer camp for magicians if you’re not already interested, but if you’re in the market for one of those, this movie is certainly one of them.
