Love Happens

Jennifer Aniston’s stardom has all but eclipsed any hope she has of disappearing into a role. Still, her earthy twinkle is one of the only tolerable aspects of this gooey romantic drama/Qwest commercial, in which Aaron Eckhart’s widowed self-help guru learns to practice the grieving that he preaches with the help of Aniston’s quirky Seattle florist. Polished and formulaic—right down to the casting of Judy Greer as The Best Friend—this film, from first-time director Brandon Camp (his dad made the Benji movies!), might have had something profound to say if Camp hadn’t been burdened with a chemistry-free romance and wanton product placement. Granted, no one wants to spend Date Night blubbering over a film that explores pain and sorrow, so instead we get to see Eckhart phone it in as he’s transformed by a fun chick who takes him to Bruce Lee’s grave. Truly cheap.
